What Is Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is one of the most serious mental illnesses that can give hallucinations in the way of hearing voices, having visions or seeing things, feeling somthing, smelling something or tasting something others can't. With schizophrenia you can get delusions (that are a change in the perception of the world or life) primarily though thoughts that can also be inserted (as if they are not coming from yourself).

What Are Positive Symptoms? (Not Good)

Positive symptoms means that people with schizophrenia have additional or added symptoms from a healthy individual. The positive symptoms are for example hallucinations, delusions, racing thoughts or overthinking, disorganized thoughts, forced movements, involuntary movements, or changed speech. These are things and symptoms that a person without schizophrenia don't have problems with in the same way and that's why the symptoms are called positive because you get additional or added behavior, thoughts, hallucinations or other symptoms that differ from how a normal person is.

What Are Negative Symptoms

There are also negative symptoms and that means that there are tings that are harder to do that you are in a negative and it's not because you as a person with schizophrenia are lazy but for example it can be harder to do daily things like showering, eating food, making food or do the laundry. Everything becomes hardere especially if you are not well medicated. You lose some competences and skills. Those are the negative symptoms

People With Schizophrenia Often Have Multiple Diagnoses

Many people with schizophrenia suffer from multiple diagnoses. For example if you hear voices it can be hard to concentrate which can make it harder to live your life. Maybe the voices say that you should stop eating or maybe the voices give you anxiety and makes you afraid of other people. In combination with the negative symptoms that it can be harder to eat a person that hears voices can develop an eating disorder.

Schizophrenia is a broad spectrum and all patients are different.

About Me

As a patient with paranoid schizophrenia I have primarily heard voices and in rare cases seen things and my voices have given me delusions and anxiety which I have described in my books. My negative symptoms are what some might call laziness that ordinary things are hard to do and these symptoms have also developed an eating disorder for me.
